Scriptorium puts out a lot of sample fonts as shareware. These are often partial sets. The full sets are available for purchase from Scriptorium. And where there are fonts available at MyFonts.com, there is a link on the font's page.
Normally, I wouldn't make a separate page for a foundry with its own website. However, some of these sets are so old, I can't find the full set listed for sale at Scriptorium. Since the short versions are still cool, I wanted to list them here. Scriptorium has great descriptions of their fonts, and samples of how the fonts are used. If you're into finding out the inspiration for a font, David Nalle has done a really nice job of doing that.
There are also a lot of fonts for which no sample has been made. You gotta go check out the website.
