Some years after categorizing these fonts as ransom note fonts, I found a couple of sites that listed these as Dadaist. Dadaism was an anti-aesthetic arts movement based on deliberate irrationality, anarchy, and cynicism. Although the Dadaist movement officially ended in 1923, it rears its chaotic head every so often, when rebellion results in chaos. I think the traffic in Los Angeles is Dadaism in automobiles.
